Once again, the International James Joyce Foundation plans to award eight or more scholarships to aid students and recent under- or unemployed post-docs who plan to attend the International James Joyce Symposium in Trieste in June 2020.
The deadline for applications for the scholarships is March 1, 2020. Applicants need not be members of the Foundation, but, if successful, they will need to become members in order to present their paper at the Symposium. The award is for $1,000, although recipients traveling long distances may be eligible for increased funding.
Applicants should send a one-page summary of their book project, M.A. thesis, or Ph.D. dissertation, including a specific description of the work that has already been done on Joyce as well as future plans, and a brief statement about how the work would be presented at the Symposium. Applicants should also send a c.v. and request that two letters of recommendation be sent by the deadline; these recommendations will be an important element in the evaluation by the committee judging the applications. Applicants must also separately submit a proposal – whether for an individual paper or as part of a pre-formed panel – to the organizing committee of the Trieste symposium. See joyce2020.org/cfp/ for details.
Applications should be sent by electronic attachment only. Recommendations should be sent separately as email attachments with the applicant’s name listed clearly in the subject line. Questions, applications, and recommendations should all be sent to email@example.com.
Faculty members are urged to encourage their students to apply.
